Pressure Builds from Counties to Take Federal BadgerCare Dollars

In the last week 7 counties from across the state passed resolutions calling on the Legislature to overturn Governor Walker’s rejection of billions in federal funds for BadgerCare.

The counties which have acted on BadgerCare resolutions are regionally and politically diverse, representing both red, blue, and purple areas of the state.  In each of the resolutions, introduced in 15 counties so far, counties call for the legislature to accept federal funds for BadgerCare as part of the Affordable Care Act, or to partner with counties interested in taking the money (similar to the way the highly successful long term care program Family Care is structured).

BGW_imageMidWisconsin For Sale - Battleground Wisconsin #97

This week our panel discusses two of Gov. Walker budget proposals; (1) Allows the sale of state properties without requiring a competitive bid process. (2) Let's Rent-to-own stores encourage customers to sign contracts lacking key details such as the total payment needed to take ownership of a product and then later fill in these blank spaces in the agreements. We also provide and an update on our BadgerCare camapign to accept federal money and a GOP bill to limit food stamp eligibility for thousands of Wisconsinites.

Low-wage workers across the country are taking dramatic action to improve their wages and working conditions. In New York and Chicago, fast-food and other service-sector workers went on strike demanding a minimum of $15 an hour and the right to form a union free from the threat of employer retaliation. Emboldened by such militant steps, Milwaukee workers have voted to create a new union of their own.

Stand with the workers, May 15, as they kick off their campaign to Raise Up Milwaukee.

Say Yes to Federal Funds

Governor Walker wants to reject billions of dollars in federal health care reform funds to fill the holes in BadgerCare. This decision, which can be overturned by the Legislature, endangers lives and denies needed funds to Wisconsin communities. Access to affordable health care is a necessity in modern society, and families without it do not have a fair shot at the American dream! Tell your State Legislators not to let Gov. Walker take affordable health care coverage away from Wisconsin families!
