Walker Administration Rubber Stamping Huge Health Insurance Rate Increases

A new report from Citizen Action of Wisconsin raises disturbing questions about the Walker Administration's enforcement of new health insurance rate review requirements.  The state is responsible for enforcing key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, the national health care reform law, which require the public disclosure and review of health insurance rate increases of 10% or higher.  The report also reveals for the first time that Walker’s Insurance Commissioner has asked the federal government for a modification of the law that could encourage insurance companies to raise their premiums higher.  Stunningly, Walker’s Insurance Commissioner sees it is a problem that health insurers may be deterred from raising their rates too high by public accountability and disclosure required by the Affordable Care Act.  It is scandalous that the public official that is supposed to look out for hard pressed consumers struggling to afford staggering health insurance premiums may actually be working hand-in-glove with the insurance industry to help them raise rates even higher.
