awardCitizen Action Receives Wellstone Award for Defense of Worker Rights
(Executive Director Robert Kraig in center)

Citizen Action of Wisconsin is one of the recipients of the Paul Wellstone Citizen Leadership Award for its work defending worker rights in Wisconsin against the frontal assault by Governor Scott Walker.  The prestigious award, which is given each year by the Campaign for America’s Future, was conferred at the 2011 Take Back the American Dream conference in Washington, DC on October 4th.

Other recipients included State Senator Mark Miller, and key union leaders from the AFL-CIO, AFCME, SEIU, WEAC, NEA, United Steelworkers, Firefighters, and AFT (Teaching Assistants Association).  Citizen Action Executive Director Robert Kraig, who traveled to Washington for the awards ceremony, said “it is an honor for Citizen Action of Wisconsin to be recognized along side of this impressive group of movement leaders who are working to turn the tide against Walker’s assault on basic freedoms.  As grateful as we are to have our work recognized, this award could have gone to the hundreds of thousands of people across the state who gave birth to a movement that is recognized around the world.”  Kraig also pointed out that there is much work left to be done.  “As much as the Wisconsin movement to defend the middle class and worker rights has already accomplished, there is still much more to be done if we are going to reclaim the American Dream.”
