Citizen Action Weekend ’26 Newsletter, Friday, April 17th

Citizen Action hosts a historic Governor candidate forum this week.
Citizen Action held a Governor’s Candidate Forum this week which drew all 7 major Democratic Primary candidates.
The event was attended by nearly 1000 people on Zoom, Facebook LIVE, and at 5 watch parties across Wisconsin.
Find out why WisPolitics of State Affairs, Wisconsin’s premier political news service, said Citizen Action’s governor candidate forum offered “significant insight” into the seven leading Democratic candidates on data centers.

Citizen Action Driftless Region Update: Building Relationships and Growing Our Reach
Spring is here, and organizing in the Driftless region is picking up fast.
Earlier this month, we gathered members for a Governor’s forum watch party. It was a great opportunity to connect, stay informed, and remind ourselves why this work matters.

On April 15th, I attended a live recording of the Open Session: A La Crosse Podcast at Western Technical College’s Kumm Center. The energy in the room was fantastic, and the connections made with campus administration and staff were genuinely exciting. Western Tech is a real opportunity for us; we are already exploring student government outreach, engagement with fall semester students, and participation in a back-to-school event. Watch this space.

This week, I was invited to join Kickapoo Conversations in Westby, a monthly round table of Vernon and Monroe County residents committed to improving civic engagement and solving local problems together. I have to say it was one of the most enlightening conversations I have been part of in a long time. Thank you to everyone there for the warm welcome. There is a real opportunity to build power around both healthcare and climate action in the rural areas of the state!
I look forward to building deeper relationships throughout Vernon County.
Coming up next Sunday, April 26th, in La Crosse, we will be tabling at the Earth Fair at Myrick Park, promoting the data center pause bill, sharing our climate initiatives, and recruiting new climate action team members. A shout out to the 8 members who have already volunteered for tabling shifts from 11-4. Please swing by and say hello.
Speaking of which, do you enjoy meeting people and talking about issues you care about? We are looking for fun, energetic folks who can staff a table for a two-hour shift occasionally. If that sounds like you, get in touch, email Aron at aron.newberry@citizenactionwi.org.
